As a Leporine, large parts of Nara's life was lived either in solitude or in very small groups. Over the course of millenia, Nara's people had learned to be content with such an existence, only crossing the paths of others out of necessity. Towns and villages did exist though, to outsiders, the Leporine appeared quiet or even reclusive.
But Nara had always been curious. A Leporine who craved new experiences was a rarity; one who wanted to acquire them by leaving the homeland even more so. So, with little more than a note to his village declaring his intent, he set out during the night to find a way into the world of humanity.
Nara had read about humans in books, how they seemingly refused their existence to stagnate and always craved something new. A new story to entertain them, a new hidden vista to catch their eye, a group of friends with whom they could share all of the above... Nara almost envied them. He wanted all of that, too and, try as he might, his homeland couldn't give it to him.
Portals and to the human world were few and far between, with their destinations unknown to even the oldest and wisest of his kind. Nevertheless, when he actually found one in the darkened centre of a forest, he barely hesitated.
His first foray into the human world was a confusing one. The forests might have looked the same, but everything which surrounded them definitely didn't. The humans didn't have ears like his and, until he concentrated on manifesting them, neither did he.
Discovering the Kawaii Kiba mansion was, admittedly, a fluke. But, when he was politely greeted at the door by the maids who worked there, Nara saw it as a welcome one. They almost resembled a family; a close-knit group of friends who explored the human world through their work. It was as if he'd been drawn to precisely what he wanted!
It wasn't an opportunity he was going to pass up. As brazen as it made him look, Nara found himself pleading - as much as his shy disposition would allow him - to join them. In response, the leader gave him a smile, and asked him but one question. Why. Realising that he valued family and friends almost as much as she did,she decided that after some training,he could make a pretty decent butler.
And, after the lengthy - and very eventful - uniform-fitting process which followed, the maids who had once been ambushed by a tall Leporine pounding on their door now regarded him as one of their own; as "Butler Nara".
